The Fastest Pickup Trucks

Without a load, many pickup trucks are actually quite light, giving them a very good power-to-weight ratio. While low-speed pulling power (and the right gearing) is usually a pickup's priority, manufacturers occasionally equip their utility models with surprisingly strong acceleration performance.

Below is a list of the 10 fastest-accelerating production trucks ever tested by MotorTrend. (While most people will use the phrase "fastest trucks", "fast" refers to overall speed, while "quickest" refers to acceleration — the focus of this list.)

2016 GMC Sierra Denali 4X4 | 5.8 sec to 60 MPH

Powered by a 6.2-liter V-8 and an eight-speed automatic transmission, the Sierra Denali reached 60 mph in just 5.8 seconds, completing the quarter-mile in 14.2 seconds at 97.1 mph.

2009 Dodge RAM Sport R/T | 5.7 sec to 60 MPH

Back when RAM was still part of the Dodge brand, the R/T sport truck was one of the fastest pickups on the road. The single-cab pickup was powered by a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 producing 390 hp and 407 lb-ft of torque. Even with a five-speed automatic transmission, the old R/T managed a 0-60 mph time of 5.7 seconds and completed the quarter-mile in 14.4 seconds at 93.4 mph.

2017 Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCab | 5.2 sec to 100 km/h

It may weigh a substantial 5,661 pounds, but the 2017 off-road-spec Raptor reaches 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds and is the first vehicle on this list to break the 14-second quarter-mile barrier, with a time of 13.9 seconds at 97.3 mph. Its 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V-6 produces a powerful 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque and is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

2004 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning | 5.1 sec to 60 MPH

The F-150 Lightning is the fastest production Ford truck MotorTrend has ever tested and the first vehicle on this list to exceed 100 mph in the quarter-mile, reaching 102 mph and crossing the finish line in 13.6 seconds. Under the hood is a supercharged 5.4-liter V-8 producing 380 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque, sending power to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission and accelerating the Lightning to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds.

2004 Dodge RAM SRT-10 | 4.9 sec to 60 MPH

Probably the craziest production street pickup ever built, the Viper-powered RAM SRT-10 easily makes the list with a 0-60 mph time of 4.9 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 13.2 seconds. This special RAM is powered by a massive 8.3-liter V-10 producing 500 hp and 525 lb-ft of torque. The best part? The truck was available with the same six-speed manual transmission used in the Viper. As impressive as a sub-five-second 0-60 time is, there is still a faster truck. However, the SRT-10's 107.1 mph trap speed is the fastest on the list.

2008 Toyota Tundra TRD Supercharged | 4.4 sec to 60 MPH

Even though more than 10 years have passed, the previous-generation Tundra TRD Supercharged is still one of the fastest production trucks MotorTrend has ever tested. TRD components, including the supercharger, did not void the new Tundra's warranty and were ordered and installed at the dealership. With a 0-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 13.0 seconds at 106.3 mph, the Tundra easily claimed the title of quickest pickup when it was originally tested. Its supercharged 5.7-liter V-8 produced 504 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque and was paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

2021 RAM 1500 TRX | 4.1 sec to 100 km/h

This really shouldn't surprise anyone. The RAM 1500 TRX arrived in 2020 with a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 producing 702 hp. This immediately put the off-road pickup ahead of the Ford F-150 Raptor, which still uses a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 and has no V-8 option. (The original Raptor offered a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V-8.) With 252 additional horsepower on board, the RAM TRX beats the Ford on the acceleration strip, reaching 100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds.

2022 Ford F-150 Lightning EV | 3.8 sec to 100 km/h

The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning doesn't look particularly special — at least in terms of design. The F-150 is America's best-selling vehicle. The Lightning is essentially an F-150 transformed with large batteries and electric motors. In its Lariat configuration, the relatively light and less powerful version is capable of a 0-100 km/h time of just 3.8 seconds — faster than any gasoline-powered vehicle on this list. With acceleration like that, it's no wonder electric vehicles are the future.

2022 Rivian R1T | 3.1 sec to 100 km/h

While the RAM 1500 TRX relies on old-school gasoline-powered brute force, the Rivian R1T takes a new-school approach. This all-electric pickup uses four electric motors — one for each wheel — producing a combined 835 hp and 908 lb-ft of torque, powered by a 135-kWh battery pack. Despite being heavy, the powerful R1T uses instant torque and the traction advantages of four individually driven wheels to reach 100 km/h in just 3.1 seconds.

With its available off-road tires fitted, the R1T reaches 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. As if Rivian needed another tiebreaker — it is one second quicker to 100 km/h than the TRX — its quarter-mile times are 11.6 seconds at 110.8 mph with road tires and 11.7 seconds at more than 111.2 mph with off-road tires. These figures are deep into Porsche territory and well ahead of any gasoline-powered truck on the market.

2022 GMC Hummer EV | 3.0 sec to 100 km/h

Any vehicle that can go from zero to 100 km/h in 3.0 seconds is impressive. Now consider that the Hummer EV is a truck weighing around 4.5 tons and you can see why it's astonishing. MotorTrend achieved the three-second 0-100 km/h time in a Hummer EV Edition 1, which uses three electric motors producing a combined 1,000 hp and 1,200 lb-ft of torque. Apparently, that much power is enough to propel the new, heavy, boxy Hummer pickup to 100 km/h faster than any other production pickup. Unsurprisingly, although the larger and less aerodynamic Hummer beats the Rivian R1T to 100 km/h, it loses the quarter-mile race to the smaller and lighter truck by 0.1 seconds and 6 mph. Still, an 11.7-second quarter-mile at 105.4 mph is astonishing.
