2024 Toyota Tacoma – The New Generation

New-generation 2024 Toyota Tacoma to offer gasoline, hybrid and full EV powertrains. Toyota has already previewed a fully electric Tacoma as part of its upcoming next-generation pickup lineup.

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma is almost certain to be the first truly new Tacoma pickup in nearly 20 years, with styling inspired by the 2022 Toyota Tundra, as well as a new platform, new powertrains and a larger overall package. Toyota will offer a wider variety of Tacoma models than ever before, with a turbocharged I-4, a hybridized V-6 and even an electric Tacoma all in the works. The foundation of the new Tacoma is the TNGA-F platform, Toyota’s new global modular body-on-frame architecture. Shared not only with the 2022 Tundra, but also with the new Lexus LX, global Land Cruiser, Hilux and next-generation 4Runner, the new platform allows for an impressive range of powertrains, body styles and suspension options. For the 2024 Tacoma, we believe Toyota will offer a version of the Lexus NX350’s 2.4-liter turbocharged I-4 producing 275 hp as the base engine, and possibly a detuned version of the Tundra’s 3.4-liter twin-turbo hybridized V-6 producing 389 hp. Transmission options will likely include a six-speed manual and a 10-speed automatic, with both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive available.

We also expect an electric Tacoma, as previewed by the Toyota Electric Truck concept. We don’t have much information about the Tacoma EV yet, but we expect it to come standard with dual-motor all-wheel drive. Despite the wide variety of powertrains, all Tacomas should move away from rear leaf-spring suspension in favor of coil springs that are more suitable for road use. Both extended-cab and crew-cab models, with short and long beds, are likely for conventionally powered Tacomas, while the EV will most likely be available only in the popular crew-cab, short-bed configuration.
